Metal detectors dream : Anglo-Saxon treasure discovered

While searching the land of a farmer friend of his with his metal detector, Mr Herbert, 55, of Burntwood in Staffordshire, was more than pleasantly surprised when he discovered UK's largest haul of Anglo-Saxon treasure.

This gold strip with a Biblical inscription is one of 1,500 items in the hoard
Experts all agree that the collection of 1,500 gold and silver pieces is a unique find which consequently was claimed by as a treasure by South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh, meaning it now belongs to the Crown. The staggering collection contains warfare paraphernalia, including sword pommel caps and hilt plates inlaid with precious stones. All exhibiting the very finest Anglo-Saxon workmanship.
