My Head Is A Map , a free e-Book

It has consumed numerous hours of preparation, proof reading and testing, but we have finally managed to publish our first e-Book. Actually it is a republication of original which appeared in 1973.

'My Head Is A Map' e-Book is an illustrated volume of essays, which is most defiantly an interesting read for all map buffs and aficionados.

The essays are published individually as separate articles and the complete publication can be downloaded against no costs, suitable for any type of e-Reader and a separate version for the Kindle.

Special thanks to Tony Campbell, Sarah Tyacke, Dr Stéphane Blond, Daria Lacy and Francis Edwards Antiquarian Bookseller for their contribution which led to the realisation of this e-Book.

My Head Is A Map – Republished on Kunstpedia

The publication ‘My Head Is A Map’ is a series of essays celebrating Ronald Vere Tooley’s 75th birthday. With over fifty years in the London antiquarian map-trade behind him, Tooley has long been a familiar figure in the sale-rooms and in the map departments of the major libraries in London.

The book was published in 1973 and with the consent of Tony Campbell, Sarah Tyacke and the original publisher Francis Edwards Antiquarian Bookseller, Kunstpedia obtained permission to digitalise the essays and make them freely available.

It has been quite a task which took longer than anticipated. Not so much scanning the content, but manually checking and correcting was a tedious task.

Within very short we also hope to offer the complete publication in ePub format for those avid e-Book readers.

Web Ranking of Museums, Art Galleries and Antique Dealers

Curious to know how active museums, art galleries and antique dealers are on the web, we analysed their performance with regard to their link density on the web and different page ranking sources such as Google Page Ranking.

Over 680 museum websites and 3700 art and antique dealers were identified, analysed and ranked accordingly. We plan on updating the ranking lists on a regular basis so that newly initiated Search Engine Optimisation [SEO] strategies by the indexed websites can be viewed.

The 500th article has been surpassed

In less than two years Kunstpedia has managed to obtain a sound position, with  530 articles, amongst the fragmentised on-line sources of information on the fine- and applied arts.

The number of articles are steadily growing and there are over 200 printed articles which still need to be scanned and processed. Articles from The Map Collector and The Hoogsteder Mercury.

Besides that we have obtained permission to publish a dissertation and digitally republish a bundle of essays published in honour of Mr. R.V. Tooley, author of many reference books and pamphlets on the subject of antique maps.

In 2010 we hope to add a number of new features, elements which will make Kunstpedia even more interesting as curators of art knowledge.

Touched by ……

We only just launched a new category titled ‘Touched by ......’. Collectors, art historians, dealers and not to forget people in general have been inspired, moved or ‘Touched by' the fine- and applied arts.

In ‘Touched by.....’ people are invited to enlighten us on their ‘weak spot’ for an artist, artistic school or particular work of art and the effects this has had on their life. Has this inspired them to become avid collectors, has it resulted in a change of career, has it transformed them into an active groupie or has it ‘stained’ them for life.

The articles range from poets, musicians and choreographer who were artistically inspired, up to admirers who had themselves ‘branded’ for life as a tribute to the artist or a specific work of art. The Articles >>

Out-of print journal now on Kunstpedia

We have been granted permission to place articles from the publication ‘The Map Collector’ on Kunstpedia. The Map Collector, a quarterly journal for the enthusiast of historical cartography, is no longer being published but the articles remain a valuable and interesting source for the antique map and atlas aficionados. We are therefore grateful that the editor and publisher, Mrs. Valerie G. Newby, has agreed to make the articles available through Kunstpedia. We hope the articles will trigger an interest in historical cartography and map collecting in general.

It will take some time before all articles have been placed on-line as the articles have to be scanned manually, rearranged and prepared for on-line publication. Articles >>
