With a Master Art History and Archaeology, Esther Schreuder is an independent scholar, art historian, curator, researcher and lecturer. She is specialised in images of Africans in Western Art - throughout all centuries to the present-, Surinamese art in relation to Caribbean and Dutch Art, contemporary art in general with an emphasis on African art, New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit/ Nieuwe Zakelijkheid/) and social realist and political art in the Netherlands 1920-1940
Apart from other exhibitions, she initiated, researched and curated the highly successful exhibition Black is beautiful, Rubens to Dumas which was held in the Nieuwe Kerk of Amsterdam in 2008.
